History

1959-1974: The Bill Shankly Era Shankly managed the team from '59 to '74 and is probably the primary reason why LFC is what it is today. He introduced a number of things that helped modernise the club and had a real understanding of tactics, man management, marketing, the business, etc. In roughly 14 years, Shankly delivered three titles, a couple FA Cups and a European Cup as well.

1974-1983: The Bob Paisley Era Paisley was a long-time assistant of Shankly and after Shankly retired, Paisley pretty much picked where Shankly left off and in about 9 years we won 6 titles, 3 league cups and 3 European Cups.

1983-1991: Joe Fagan and Kenny Dalglish There was continued success in this era as well with titles and European success and players that are now legends.

1992-2007: Entering The Premier League Era With the introduction of The Premier League, I think Liverpool found themselves in an odd period where the success on the pitch wasn't as common (even with the excitement of the Champions League Final in Istanbul). There were some awkward managerial selections like the odd Roy Evans/Gerard Houllier co-manager experiment in 1998. And I think ownership struggled to adapt to the swiftly changing nature of the business with the introduction of the Premier League. That realisation led ownership to sell the club to a couple of Americans.
